Types of Line Striping

At Porter Sealcoating & Paving, we do striping for a wide variety of projects based on traffic requirements and customer needs. The striping that is found on most modern crosswalks is called thermal striping, and involves the use of a thermoplastic paint that, when heated, will adhere to the asphalt. This produces a thick and durable layer of paint that will stand up well under heavy traffic.

Battle Ground Pavement Striping FAQ

How long does an asphalt driveway take to cure?

Line striping (or line marking, not to be confused with line stripping, which isn’t a thing), is the laying down of directional or guiding marks on asphalt, concrete, or in some cases gravel. These marks may include lane lines, parking lot boundaries, and crosswalk markings.

How much does line striping cost?

It’s not really practical to give an idea of the cost for something that is so project-dependent. Prospective clients of Battle Ground pavement striping contractors should know that prices will depend on the area to be striped, colors to be used, and the type of material used to make the striping. The best way to determine your costs is to arrange for a quote. Be sure to ask whoever you have come to give your bid what your options and their associated costs are.

How do you paint parking lot lines?

Before putting any paint to the pavement, it is essential to plan out the parking lot first, making sure any relevant ADA guidelines or other local rules are being followed. For simple lines, we use a line striping machine with solvent-based paint that ensures lines go on straight. Thermal striping material can be used in other situations, where thermoplastic material is heated to adhere to the pavement.

How often should you stripe a parking lot? How long does pavement paint last?

It is good to keep up on striping every 1-2 years. How much foot traffic you have will determine the likely hood of your stripes needing touchups.

How soon can you stripe after paving?

Striping can be done 1-2 days after paving, and the asphalt is cured.

What is the right temperature to apply striping?

Striping can be done in any temperature with solvent based painting. All you need is a clean and dry surface.

How long does it take for pavement paint to dry?

The temperature of the weather determines the amount of time it will take for the paint to dry. In warmer weather it can take up to a day to set up. In cooler weather it can set in a matter of hours.
