Where We Work

Where We Pave: Gresham to the Gorge

Porter Sealcoating & Paving is based in Gresham, and after four generations in this business, the crews know the difference between a Gresham driveway and one in the Gorge. Coverage runs 52 communities deep: the East Metro, Portland and the river cities, the Tualatin Valley, French Prairie, Columbia County, Southwest Washington, and the Columbia River Gorge. Every town below has its own page.

East Metro & Mt. Hood Corridor

Gresham is home base, which means this stretch of the map gets the most truck traffic of anywhere Porter works. The territory runs from Gresham itself out to the foothills: newer subdivisions in Happy Valley and Clackamas, the last stretch of civilization in Sandy before Mt. Hood takes over, and acreage country around Boring, Damascus, Eagle Creek, and Estacada where long gravel driveways are still the norm. Troutdale and Fairview sit closer to the river, each with a small historic downtown and its own share of business-park lots. It’s a mix of rural, suburban, and small-commercial work, but the wet-winter story is the same almost everywhere: shaded driveways collect moss faster than most owners expect, and that’s usually the first sign a surface needs attention. Because the shop is only minutes from most of this territory, scheduling here tends to move fast. Also on the route: Corbett and the scenic highway.

Portland & the River Cities

Portland is the region’s biggest swing in job type. Some streets here were never built to city standard and the city won’t maintain them, so it’s common for a group of neighbors to split the cost of a repair or repave themselves rather than wait on anyone else. Commercial and industrial lots cluster along the corridors on the east side, while the older residential blocks closer to the center carry driveways as old as the houses. Follow the Willamette south and the river cities each run their own pace: heavy tree cover over high-value homes in Lake Oswego and Marylhurst, steep view streets in West Linn, mid-century blocks in Gladstone, and hillside grades stacked above the falls in Oregon City. Out past the edge of the metro, Canby, Beavercreek, and Mulino trade subdivisions for farm lanes and acreage. Prep work matters more here than almost anywhere else in the territory, since moss, fir debris, and old patched asphalt are all working against a clean result before Porter’s crew ever shows up.

West of the River

Westside & Tualatin Valley

The westside runs from Beaverton’s ranch-home neighborhoods and office parks through Hillsboro’s Silicon Forest campuses, then out to where the Tualatin Valley turns back into farm country around Cornelius, North Plains, and Banks. South along I-5, Tualatin, Sherwood, and Wilsonville mix HOA streets with serious industrial and flex-space lots. Commercial work is steady out here, and the residential side expects the same finished edge the office parks get.

South on 99

French Prairie & Wine Country

South of the metro the work turns agricultural: hop yards around Hubbard, grain and field country in Donald and Saint Paul, the historic Aurora Colony, and Woodburn’s mix of outlet-scale commercial lots and established neighborhoods. West on 99W, Newberg and Dundee open Yamhill County wine country, where tasting-room parking and long vineyard driveways in the hills both need to look the part. Farm drives take a different kind of beating than city streets, and the crews price and prep them accordingly.

Down US-30

Columbia County

Yes, Porter really does come out to Columbia County; customers here have said as much in their reviews. US-30 strings the county together, from Scappoose and its airpark through the Warren countryside to Saint Helens’ historic riverfront downtown and the quiet streets of Columbia City. River-bottom farmland, forested acreage, and long rural driveways set the tone for most of the work out here.

Crossing the Columbia

Southwest Washington

Southwest Washington is growing fast enough that Porter crosses the river regularly, not just occasionally. Camas and Vancouver’s newer neighborhoods want the same clean, finished look as anything on the Oregon side, and HOAs and apartment communities are common enough here that recurring maintenance work is normal. Push north and the county changes character fast: new subdivisions and hobby farms around Battle Ground and Ridgefield, horse country in Brush Prairie, small towns like La Center and Yacolt above the East Fork Lewis, and scattered rural properties out toward Heisson. Long private drives rule the north county, and gravel-to-asphalt conversions are a steady part of the workload.

Up I-84

The Columbia River Gorge

The Gorge is two climates in one canyon. The west end, from Bridal Veil’s waterfall country through Cascade Locks at the Bridge of the Gods, stays wet and mossy most of the year. Cross into Hood River and the wind picks up over orchard-valley driveways and steep grades, and by The Dalles and Lyle the problem flips entirely: sun and heat, so sealcoating out east protects against UV as much as water. Same crew, same schedule, both sides of the river.

The Gorge

Regular Crews, Up I-84

The Gorge isn’t a once-in-a-while trip for Porter. Crews run up I-84 on a regular schedule, from Cascade Locks through Hood River and on to The Dalles, keeping pace with a stretch of highway that sees some of the hardest wind and weather swings in the territory. Hood River has more photographed Porter jobs than almost any other town on the map, from a downtown lot re-stripe to estate driveway sealcoats out in the orchard valley. If you’re out past Troutdale, there’s a good chance Porter has already been through.
